Cody Mcfadyen was born in Texas in 1968. He designed websites before selling his first novel, Shadow Man, in 2005. He has since had a second book – The Face of Death – published. Both were international best sellers. He lives in Southern California with his two black labs, often referred to as ‘The Black Forces of Destruction.’ He drinks coffee (copiously), plays guitar (badly), and reads (voraciously). He abhors adverbs in writing, except when used in short bios like this one. Read More

The Darker Side US Release

Well, the Darker Side is out now in the US. As I said before, I'm pleased with this book. It's a little bit different than the two that preceded it, but that was inevitable.

Smoky dictates the direction the books go, not me...

Good reading.

Great! I can't wait to get it. I may have to wait for a while though. The online bookstore where I buy my books only has the UK version for 35.90 dollar. Do you by chance now if the book is going to be translated into Dutch?

I am a retired school principal--read about one mystery book every few days. Usually figure out "who dunnit" by the middle. "The Face of Death" is BRILLIANT. Thought I'd figured it out--wrong, wrong, wrong! Looking for Shadow Man(I only buy used) and looking forward to The Darker Side.
Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
BRILLIANT!!
Sincerely,
Ola

I just finished reading The Darker Side. What a wonderful book! I have read all of your books and the stories just keep getting better and better. I could hardly put it down in the four days that it took me to read it. I read many authors but you have become a MUST read for myself. Thank you for creating such interesting characters. In your writing you make me care about each of the characters and where the story is taking me. I already cannot wait for your next novel. Keep up the great work and I wish you continued success.

This 3-rd part is clearly different, than the first two. McFadyen works here less with blood, brutality and sensational effects and focuses more the feelings of the victims, members and official. The inquiry work stands in the foreground and Smokys many-sided talents do not come at all to carry (black train), however, this novel would have stood a little bit more of the predecessors. Some more Thrill and blood would have been good. I have not perused it - like other both thrillers of Cody - in a slide without being able to put aside it. I read for 3 days and am in the last trains. In spite of all Astonishingly Addiction-exciting I wait on next. with hopefully more blood:))

Great book!!! Yes, the 3rd book is different, but still fantastic. If I had one gripe, it's that in the last 2 books you do spend a lot of time going over each character. I liked when you did it in the second book because it helped remind me of the character's backgrounds, but in The Darker Side, I found myself saying "OK, I already know all this lets move on". I do have to say I LOVE each character!!! Thanks again for keeping me up late and night!

I just read "The Face of Death" and I'm thrilled. The description of the characters is great, it's as if they are becoming friends while you read the book. And the story is so exciting I have to force myself to close the book and stop reading when I'm in bed. Can't wait to read the first and the third book! Thanks a lot for writing such brilliant thrillers :) Greetings from Germany wishes Tanja

Thanks very much to everyone for the comments. I'm sorry for being absent and uncommunicative - been working on the next book.

The whole introduce the characters thing, yes, is always a bugbear. I have to write each book assuming that it's the first one for a new reader. I'm still searching for the most complete yet economical way to do this! :)

Hope everyone had a great Halloween. Now, the Holidays begin in earnest.

I had The Darker Side shipped to me the day it came out in Canada. I was very excited to receive it as well as The Face of Death on the same day. I read the first two books quite some time ago. I was on a jaunt to the library with no particular books or authors in mind. Sometimes this is when I find an exceptionally stellar writer. This was one of those times. I'm still stunned it was your first book! I have been reading fiction novels since I was 11 years old and I read very fast. I've probably read thousands of books in the last 23 years and you are in the top 5 of my favorite writers (Sorry but Jean Auel won't budge from #1). I can not wait for your next book and will be ordering it immediately! Thank you for sharing your great gift!

I see you have postings from another Joy. But I'm the one, you may or not remember, who emailed you with the question "could my husband sue you for death by novel when I died of a heart attack reading your previous 2 novels".
I just finished The Darker Side. I wasn't as scared reading this one, as it wasn't as bloody, but I couldn't put it down. A day and a half to read. You just amaze me with the twists and turns. Like another of your bloggers I usually figure out the plot, but with you there are always continuing surprises. I just love you for that. Great read!!!!
Can't wait for the next. I hate the wait in between books, but then if you cranked them out too fast you may get like James Patterson. Lose your edge.
You are the #1 author on my list for sure.

I just finished the 3rd book. It was good but lacked the punch and darkside of the first 2 books. I truly love all of the good guy's in your work, but the "bad guy's"
in your earlier works were truly "bad" which made for some truly page turning reading with friends rushing me to finish and pass on........
This one was just ........ok............
