Happy Belated New Year
Happy New Year!
Yes, I know it's late... I got caught up in the holiday madness, too. I'm back at work now. Book 4 of the Smoky Barrett Series - currently titled 'Abandoned' is with my editor, and due to be published in the UK around July and in the US in October. Now I'm eyeing book 5.
On the way back from Colorado, where I spent Christmas, I picked up The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I started reading it while we were waiting for our plane, and finished it before we landed. I was completely blown away. It's a bleak story, but it is also evocative, beautiful, involving and some of the best writing I've ever come across.
I left the book on the plane, in hopes that someone else would find it and read it. I'm generally a hoarder when it comes to books(and I'll certainly re-buy myself a hardcover copy) but in this case I felt good about gifting such a fine work of literature to a stranger.
I'm looking forward to what this year will bring. These are hard times, but the cliche' is true, cliche' or no - so long as you have good health and family, you're never poor.

Hearing about Book 4 & 5 of your series just made my day!
I know I have no choice, but I just hope I can make it to July!!
I am so excited to hear about the new book! It's going to be a long long 8 months though! Just re-re-re-reading book 3 lol
And a happy new year to you, Cody.
I read 'The road' during our summer holidays. And even though the book blew me away, it also made me quite sad. I think I lost my faith in humaity, maybe just for a while, but the book crawls under your skin and it stays there.
This year, 'The Road' will premiere in cinemas. Viggo Mortense is "the man"
Btw - Can't wait for the next Smoky book. Good to hear that you're already working on the next. :)
I just got thru reading the last book and it was great. My favorites were the 1st two. I have bought books for other people to read. I never was the type to read these types of scary books but grabbed the 1st one in a hurry in the airport and couldn't put it down and have been hooked ever since. My sister says she won't read them when it gets dark out. Too scary. Can't wait till July.
So when is Shadow Man going to be made into a movie?! I can totally picture Nicole Kidman as Callie and Michael Clarke Duncan as Alan. I can't quite get James and Smokey yet lol. When ever I read the books again I can imagine them as movies and I think they would work out well with the right team!
Happy New Year, Cody!
I agree 100% that the writing of The Road was fabulous; however, I didn't like how it left me feeling. It took me at least a full day to get over the funk. I didn't like being left like that.
Waiting for the next book in the Smokey series is torturous. Can you give a little morsel of the plot or who the prominent character is or anything - anything will do. I need to be tied over with just a little something. :) For example you said that Smokey was going to be toned down and a little more introspective in Book 3. You were right! Tee Hee I'd be happy with whatever you can share.
I live in Australia and like the other comments I cant wait for the new book. I LOVE YOUR WRITING !!!
Hi all,
Sorry (as always) to take so long to respond to your (as always) very kind comments.
Yeah, the new book is mid the back and forth with my editors, but should be a wrap soon. I like it, and I hope you will as well. LOTS of changes in store for Smoky.
Joy - well... let's just say that her personal life continues to develop. Heh heh. :)
Back to work! (me, not you guys)
Why don't we try to guess what happens in the new book, might be nice to see what you got right! ;)
I’ll start! What about this: 'Abandoned' can mean two things, wicked or unattended. But as the cover (on amazon, darn I'm so curious what the Dutch cover will look like!) shows an old door I guess it means that someone gets shoved in there with food and water for some time and the team has to find him (or her) before it’s too late. Think ‘Se7en’ meets ‘Silence of the lambs’.
As for her personal life, a wedding maybe? Or maybe a pregnancy! Nah I don’t see that last thing happen..
This book comes out in October, which means I will probably have to read it in German since I will be in Austria then!
@Lasse. Really? Viggo Mortensen? *drool* ^_^
i recently read "shadow man" and literally could not put it down. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book of the series!!
Im 16 and ive read 'Shadow Man', 'Face Of Death' and half of 'The Darker Side' (until i unfortunately misplaced it)I will hopefully be buying it again at the weekend! In my long and agonising wait, I have been trying to find books to satisfy me as much they did i've tried books such as: 'The Bone Collector' by Jeffery Deaver and although they have been good, nothing has compared to the Smokey Barrett collection. I cant wait to finish 'The Darker Side' and im so excited for 'Abandoned. Does anyone know the actual date when it comes out? :)
